I’m sorry that I haven’t blogged in some time now. This is due mostly to the last comment coming from my Grandaddy, who died soon after his last comment. Every time I read it, I cry, and then log off. Often times, he was the reason that I would blog. It was the easiest way to keep him and Gram up to date with our lives. Now that he’s gone and he’s not always asking me to update, it’s just plain hard.

I will keep trying.

I am pregnant again, only 5 weeks, and yesterday started the morning sickness. It’s different from my sickness with Laila, but sick, nonetheless.

I hate being pregnant, so this will, undoubtedly, be a lot of ranting. I apologize now, probably none later. So far, I already hate it, but I feel so blessed that God would give us another child exactly when we asked Him to give us another. He is the almighty, most high, most loving God and I praise him.

I love comments. They keep me going, so please comment away.

Lunch yesterday October 11, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — fromdeemsideout @ 11:53 am

So I made a soup yesterday that we felt was yummy enough, and easy enough, to share. Here goes:

Pasta Fagioli

2 cans beans (I used Kidney)
1 small can tomato sauce
2 cups broth (I used beef)
2 carrots, peeled and shredded (gotta sneak those in)
2 squash, diced
1 can rotel (you could use stewed or diced tomatoes if you don’t want the spice)
1 tsp. italian seasoning
1/2 tsp. basil
1/2 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. parsley
salt & pepper
1/2 box whole wheat penne pasta

Bring all ingredients, except pasta, to a boil. You may need to add water or broth here. Remember your pasta will make it a little starchy, so prepare. Add pasta and simmer until pasta is cooked al dente, about 20 minutes. Serve with a nice, crusty bread and pesto. Salad would be good too.

See how easy!

The way that Greg and I eat, it will serve about 6. If you eat like birds, maybe 8.

Enjoy! If I can, I’ll snap a picture when I prepare our leftovers for lunch today!

The past few months July 9, 2010

I’m sorry that I haven’t updated you in a while. Summer has begun and Reagan and Emma are staying with me while their parents are at work. We are having a blast! Laila loves waking up to see her cousins each morning. We are going swimming as often as we can. It’s a little hard, because Laila doesn’t nap well when there are things going on, i.e. kids playing and screaming in the water! Laila loves the water, and of course, the rest of us do too.

Laila and her daddy also got to ride horses early this summer. We went to Aunt Jenna and Uncle Matt’s a few weeks ago and they got to ride a horse, named Breta. Laila liked it!

Here are few others pics from the past few months. Enjoy

Laila Faith – 6 months March 30, 2010

I started this blog to keep family updated on Laila’s growing, and it’s been everything but that! So here’s a few photos that Greg took of Laila when she turned 6 months old. We go back to the dr for more shots, and I can’t wait to see how much she’s grown. I’ll update with that info too, because I know people like to know those things. I know I do.

I just can’t wait any longer to share my latest project!

In my family, we have a table and 6 matching chairs that have made the rounds, and each one has recovered the chairs to make them her own. Well, about a year ago, I found my turn with this beautiful set, but couldn’t quite decide what I wanted for the new cushions. Until…..a few weeks ago, I found what I wanted! I’m in love with this fabric, and I found it at Hobby Lobby (a store I frequent). Here’s the finished product.

Well, of course, there was leftover material that must be used, right?

In the meantime, my daughter has gotten to the point that we needed a highchair. My parents generously offered my old highchair for her use. It is a wonderful old fashioned wooden chair with wooden tray. When I say wonderful, I mean better than wonderful…..magnificent!

Lightbulb!

The highchair needs a cushion too….and I have leftover material from the kitchen chairs!!!! Woo Hoo….. After racking my brain (I’m new to sewing), I decide to just start drawing and cutting and hopefully it’ll work out. In the end, what I made was basically 2 slightly stuffed pillows with ribbons for tying onto the chair. I am very proud of it, and I hope that it inspires you to make something that you’ll be just as proud of.

Enjoy!

Em

It was a bad day March 2, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — fromdeemsideout @ 5:57 pm

I’ve experienced lots of emotions in this life. For the most part, I would say that I’ve had a great life with lots of great emotions. But Sunday was one of the worst days of my life. I can’t say much about it, but I’ll share that my Maggo died Sunday morning. No explanation, no warning. Maggie was the best dog anyone could ask for. She was loyal, but all dogs are. She was gorgeous, but all mommas think so about their own. What I can say about Maggie that not all dogs can claim is that she was a great friend to me. She was so expressive that she and I could have real conversations, at least as much as I needed for the moments that I was talking with my dog. Maggo and I have been together for 11 1/2 years. She was a BIG baby and got in trouble a lot, but that’s a lot of why I loved her so much. She wanted to be wherever I was all the time. She was sad when I was sad, happy when I was happy and lazy when I was lazy. We had a great time together, and I’ll love her and miss her the rest of mine.

whew! February 6, 2010

What a busy week we’ve had! It was fun though. Let me start with Friday…..Greg, Laila and I started our trek to Hillsboro in the afternoon. After 4 stops on this 3.5 hour trip, through the snow (it wasn’t much), we finally arrived over 5 hours after our start. Whew!

We had a great time with our friends J, Uncle No and Owen. We did a whole lot of nothing, and it was perfect. We did however shop the outlets about an hour, endure the Wal-Mart, and cook supper together. Other than that, nothing!!!!! I’ll post pics in a gallery at the bottom of this post. Laila and Owen (only one month apart) are so cute together. Although they cannot play together yet, they talk and smile and coo at each other.

Oh yeah, on this trip, we decided to take a summer beach vacation together. Our babies will probably be walking, but at least crawling, by then and it’ll be a blast to watch them on the beach. I can’t wait!!!

On sunday, we traveled back home. It took 5 hours again, but we stopped for lunch this time and that took an hour. So the road home was much easier than the road there.

Monday morning, Greg came home from work to let me know that he was going to Red Oak for the week :( . It’s only 30-40 minutes from Hillsboro, so I was extremely upset that I couldv’e stayed with J, but instead had to come home to be alone all week :( .

We did, however, survive the week alone. My momma was around quite a lot! Whew! They even fed me one night. Greg came home on friday and my heart did a little happy dance.

Friend Penny also came to town Friday, so we’ve had lots of fun with her. Laila is loving Aunt Penny, and I’m loving it too. Laila does not really like anyone right now. She’s very partial to momma these days, so it’s very exciting to see her react to Penny the way she does. Penny will leave in a few hours and we are sad about that.

Tonight we will party with Greg’s sister and family and tomorrow we will Super Bowl party with another sister and the whole family. Whew!

Told ya it was busy…..but I’m loving it!

Laila’s update! January 27, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — fromdeemsideout @ 2:40 pm

We went to the doctor yesterday for 4 month shots. Laila weighs 11 pounds, 1 ounce, and 24 inches long. Yes, she’s tiny! She did not double her birth weight (the books say she should), but she is perfectly healthy, and hungry! I knew she was hungry because she’s been waking up in the night, after sleeping through the night so wonderfully since 6 weeks. We fed Laila her first cereal last night!!!!! It was fun.

She didn’t eat very much, and she didn’t sleep through the night either. I will expect food to do the trick for us in about a week maybe 2.

We are taking our first family vacation this weekend. It’s just a weekend trip but I am so excited about it. We are going to visit friends in Hillsboro. They also have an infant (5 month old, Owen), so it’ll be loads of fun. Owen and his momma have been able to visit us twice before, but this is our first time to visit them. My only concern about this trip: Laila has started really fighting sleep lately, and their son will most likely be sleeping while Laila throws her fit to go to bed! I just hope she doesn’t wake him up.

Til next time…Em

a few new pics January 20, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — fromdeemsideout @ 11:23 am

Just wanted to quickly upload a few pics of Greg and Laila, my favorite people!

I’ll explain the pics first…..Greg and I love tattoos, and he got a tattoo a few months ago with Laila’s name written in arabic. The reason is because Laila is an arabic name (we’ve also heard it’s greek).  Anyway, we did not choose Laila because it is arabic, but solely because we love the name. The tattoo says “Laila Faith”.

I hope you enjoy my beautiful husband and daughter!

I have the prettiest, sweetest reason to give up my time. I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated so I thought I would share some photos with you.

These photos are from October 2009. For Halloween I used one of Laila’s sleepers to make her an octopus costume! It was soooo cute.

The middle picture on the far right is from the first day that she smiled at me (momma). She had been smiling for her daddy for a few days (or so he says!).

The middle picture on the far left is Greg holding his sister’s twins, Natalie and Jillian. These cousins are only 3 months older than Laila.

Okay, this next set of pics is a bit out of order….

The first one is from THanksgiving. Remember I told you about baking an apple pie…well, here it is. Pretty right?

The next one is a not so great photo of our family in front of the Christmas tree.

The 2 larger pics on bottom are from Thanksgiving in Plano with my brother, Eric, and his family. His son, Justin, is only 7 weeks younger than Laila and this was the first time that we were able to visit with Justin.

Second from top on the far right…the turkey is made with Laila’s handprint! It was a difficult task but worth it! The one just above is Laila in the very first outfit that I made for her. Not sure if she liked it or not (she had 2 blow out diapers in the outfit!).

This next set is from Christmas 2009, and mostly self explanatory. I’ll tell you tho that I decided on Dec. 22 that I wanted to start a tradition of making pj’s for our new family every year for christmas eve!!!! I worked allllll day on the 23rd sewing our really cute pj’s. Those pics are from Christmas morning at Greg’s folks (their pic is on bottom left.). My folks are just above them, and my Grandmother (Laila’s great-Grandmother) is next to my parents.
