From the Emside Out's Blog

Life just started, it seems, so let's figure it out together.

Thanksgiving Eve November 26, 2009

I have an apple pie in the oven, so I must stay awake until I can take it out. I don’t think I did it correctly, but it sure is pretty. Here’s hoping that I don’t burn it!

I was reading friends’ blogs and came across this one: http://itsahodgepodgelife.blogspot.com/2009/11/blogging-around.html#comment-form . She’s giving away a piece of jewelry….go check it out! But hurry, because it’s over on Tuesday.

So back to the apple pie. I love love love apple pie, so I wanted to make one. It’s been years since I have made one, and i can’t find that recipe. I searched online and found a recipe that looked simple enough! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Apple-Pie-By-Grandma-Ople/Detail.aspx You can read the recipe if you like, but…. I was thrown when I read that you put the top crust on and then pour in the filling?!?!?!?!  I did, and some of it ran off, so I’m not sure if the pie has enough filling!

On a side note, Greg (my husband) was volunteered to smoke the turkey this year. NO he has not done this before!!!! He’s been running like crazy getting his bird ready to start smoking at 3 this morning. That’s in 2 1/2 hours. I know it’ll be great. I believe he knows enough to get the job done correctly and deliciously! Meanwhile, Greg volunteered me to make the turkey breasts that we were thawing to cook day after Thanksgiving. No, I have not done this before!!! I also have been running like crazy to get my (1/2) bird ready to roast in the morning. That one will go in the oven at 5 am.

I had already planned to take the broccoli rice casserole (one of my faves) and an onion souffle, and of course, the apple pie. All easy recipes. I guess it’s okay to be experimental with the bird, so I had it so easy with the rest of my contribution.

This thanksgiving is odd for me! I am looking forward to a great day with family, but it’s definitely not panning out to be traditional. We are not having dinner with my family at all 😦 but we will get to see them and visit, just a shorter time than normal.

Oven’s dinging….off to bed i go!!!

Tutorial Request November 22, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — fromdeemsideout @ 3:08 pm

So….My friend, Gay, has asked me to write a guest tutorial for her blog. I’ve been thinking and wondering what in the world could I tutor someone on. This is a great idea that she’s had to attract more traffic to both our blogs and our etsy shops. I have added Gay’s blog site and her etsy to my list of links. Be sure to check them out. She’ll impress you with her craftiness! I sure hope it works. I have not added anything new to Etsy lately as nothing has sold. I think our items are really pretty and I love the art that I do, so I cannot imagine why no one is buying. Also, the prices are phenomenal. When I get the tutorial written, I will also post it here on my blog. And this has inspired me to possibly photo journal all my endeavors, in case I need to write a tutorial on it!

I think I”ve decided what to tutor you on……drumroll, please.

I will do a simple shape painting. The finished product will be a nutcracker. I wanted to do this painting last christmas but I got too busy, so I’ve saved it for this year! Great timing, right?

I’ve also started sewing finally! I made some simple pants for Laila, and embellished a tee to match. I also have embellished another tee for her to wear while watching cornhusker football with her daddy. And I’ve made a hooter hider and a burp rag. YES…..I LOVE MY NEW MACHINE!!!! and i can’t wait to use it again. I have plans to make a plain, white dress so that my bestie can embroider something Christmasy on the front! I’ll share those photos as that is completed.

Motherhood is amazing….I totally recommend it!

Laila is 2 months old already….whew! November 18, 2009

So….being a mom leaves little time for anything else. These past 2 months have been a whirlwind. First there was the post partum depression….I guess what I experienced would only be the “baby blues,” but for those weeks while it was happening to me, it was awful. I never felt negative toward Laila, which I’m thankful for…but every little tiny thing made me cry. And I don’t mean just cry, but sob and wail. Sometimes I couldn’t even catch my breath. Everything gave me anxiety. My husband prayed constantly for me and with me, and I’m all back to normal now!!!!

Greg took some photos of us all this past Sunday afternoon, and they turned out wonderfully. I”ll post a few to share.

I’m still fat, so disregard that! I am seriously confused why I am still fat. I still look very pregnant. The other day at wal-mart (I left Laila with Greg), a sales clerk asked me when I was due. Shamelessly, I smiled and said “I just had her”……AND THEN, the dude next to her said “oh, how great, how old is she?” ShameFULLY, I answered, under my breath, “8 weeks.” It was horrifying! Yes, you’ve got it….I’m vain. I want my body back! And the stretchmarks….oh my! I’ll never be able to wear even a knee length skirt again. I had so much fluid in my legs (I lost 20 pounds in the hospital), that my thighs are disgusting with stretchmarks….dark red and purple stretchmarks. It’s awful. So yes, it’s important to me that I get my body back….the one from my wedding.

So it’s bedtime, and I need to feed Laila. I’ll try to keep more up to date with the blog. I’m sorry for the delay, but life is finally getting back to normal. I even plan to try to sew tomorrow!!!

See you later!
